# Brand Guidelines Builder

Brand Guidelines Builder turns a rough brand idea (or an existing logo and a few adjectives) into a complete, structured brand guidelines document you can paste straight into Notion. It is built for solo founders, designers, and content teams who need a credible style guide before a launch but do not have weeks for an agency engagement.

## When to use it
- You are shipping a landing page or app and have no documented colors, type scale, or voice.
- A new writer or contractor needs a single source of truth for tone and word choices.
- You have a logo and ad-hoc colors, and want them formalized into tokens and usage rules.
- You need social cover specs (OG image, X header, LinkedIn banner) sized correctly the first time.

## What it produces
Running the skill generates one document with these sections:
- **Voice & tone** — 3-5 voice principles, a tone matrix (e.g. error states vs. onboarding), and word-choice do's-and-don'ts.
- **Color tokens** — primary, secondary, neutral, and semantic colors as HEX plus suggested token names (`--color-brand-600`), with WCAG contrast notes on text pairings.
- **Typography scale** — heading/body font pairing, a modular scale (e.g. 1.25 ratio), weights, and line-height per step.
- **Logo usage** — clear-space, minimum size, approved color variants, and a do's-and-don'ts gallery description.
- **Social cover specs** — pixel dimensions and safe-area notes for the major platforms.

Output is plain Markdown with proper headings, tables, and toggle-friendly structure, so it imports into Notion cleanly. Color and type sections are emitted as tables you can lift into a `tokens.json` or Tailwind `theme.extend`.

## Usage

```
curl -fsSL --create-dirs -o ~/.claude/skills/brand-guidelines-builder/SKILL.md https://claudeskil.com/skills/brand-guidelines-builder/SKILL.md
# then, in a session:
> Build brand guidelines for "Northwind", a B2B logistics SaaS.
> Voice: precise, calm, no hype. Primary color #1E5AA8. Pair a geometric
> sans for headings with a readable serif for body. Include social covers.
```

The skill asks for anything missing (industry, audience, existing assets) before generating, so a one-line prompt still yields a full kit.

## Tips & gotchas
- Give it a seed color and it will build a tonal ramp around it; omit colors and it proposes a palette you can regenerate by asking for "warmer" or "higher contrast."
- It writes token *names* and HEX values, not a build artifact — ask explicitly for `tokens.json` or a Tailwind config block if you want code.
- Contrast notes are advisory. Verify AA/AAA in your real UI; generated pairings assume default backgrounds.
- For Notion, paste as Markdown (not rich text) so tables and headings map correctly.

## FAQ
**Can it use my existing logo and colors?** Yes. Describe or share your current HEX values and font names and it will document and extend them rather than invent new ones.

**Does it output design files?** No SVG/PNG assets — it produces the written guidelines and specs. Use the specs to brief a designer or an image tool.

**Can I regenerate just one section?** Yes. Ask for "redo the typography scale at a 1.333 ratio" and it rewrites that section without touching the rest.
