Notion Template Builder — Spec a Sellable Template End-to-End

Design a complete, sellable Notion template: structure, databases, views, and the buyer setup guide.

1–3 hours beginner Claude Opus, GPT-5#notion#digital-products#templates
intro.md

Notion templates are one of the highest-margin digital products you can sell — but buyers refund 'pretty but useless' templates fast. This prompt specs a template that actually solves the buyer's workflow: the database schema, the views, the dashboard, and the setup guide that prevents refunds.

You are a top Notion template creator who's done $200k+ in template sales. Spec a COMPLETE, sellable Notion template for the use case below — structured enough that I can build it in Notion directly from your spec.

INPUTS:
- Use case the template solves: {{use_case}}
- Target buyer (role, their current messy workflow): {{target_buyer}}
- Price point: {{price_point}}

PRODUCE:

1. POSITIONING
- Template name (benefit-led, searchable)
- One-line promise: "The Notion template that helps {{target_buyer}} [outcome] without [pain]"
- Why a buyer pays {{price_point}} instead of building it themselves

2. STRUCTURE (top-level pages)
List the top-level pages/sections, in the order they appear in the sidebar. Each with a one-line purpose.

3. DATABASES (the engine)
For each database the template needs:
- Database name
- Properties (name + type: text, select, multi-select, date, relation, rollup, formula, status…)
- For any formula property, give the actual Notion formula
- For any relation/rollup, state what it links to and what it aggregates

4. VIEWS
For each database, the views a buyer needs (Table, Board, Calendar, Gallery, Timeline) + the filter/sort/group for each, and WHY that view helps the workflow.

5. DASHBOARD
Describe the home dashboard: linked database views, a "start here" callout, and any synced blocks. This is the first thing the buyer sees — make it feel instantly useful.

6. BUYER SETUP GUIDE (refund-prevention)
A 5–8 step "how to use this template" guide written for a non-technical buyer. This single asset prevents most refund requests.

7. UPSELL
One related template I should build next to sell to the same buyer.

Keep it concrete and buildable. No vague "add a productivity section" — give me exact databases, properties, and formulas.

$ man playbook

Step-by-step playbook

How to actually use this prompt for the best results.

  1. 01

    Pick a use case you personally understand

    Templates sell when they reflect a real workflow. Spec one for a workflow you (or a community you're in) actually live — content calendars, client CRM, course planners, habit systems. Insider knowledge shows in the details buyers notice.

  2. 02

    Build the template directly from the spec

    The spec gives you exact databases, properties, formulas, and views. Build it in Notion in a few hours. The formulas and relations are the parts most creators get wrong — the prompt hands them to you.

  3. 03

    Write/record the setup guide before listing

    Use the buyer setup guide from section 6 as a PDF + a 3-minute Loom. Refund requests come almost entirely from buyers who can't figure out how to start — this kills that.

  4. 04

    Deliver via a duplicate link + sell on Gumroad/Etsy

    Share the template as a 'Duplicate' link (Notion: Share → Publish → Allow duplicate as template). Sell the link + setup guide as an instant download.

$ man tips

Pro tips for better output

  • Buyers pay for the THINKING (the structure + formulas), not the aesthetics — but a clean dashboard screenshot is what sells the listing. Invest in both.
  • Bundle 2–3 related templates for a higher price point — bundles convert better than single templates and raise your average order value.
  • Add a free 'lite' version as a lead magnet; upsell the full version. Free Notion templates rank well on Google and feed your paid funnel.

$ man faq

FAQ

Do I need to be a Notion expert to sell templates?

No — but you need to understand the buyer's workflow. The prompt handles the technical Notion specifics (formulas, relations, rollups). Your edge is knowing what the buyer actually needs, which comes from living the workflow yourself.

Where do Notion templates sell best?

Gumroad and Notion's own Template Gallery for discovery, Etsy for search traffic, and your own Twitter/newsletter audience for the highest margins. Free templates on the Notion gallery are a strong top-of-funnel.
